Eppendorf receives another ACT label as an award for environmentally friendly devices

The ACT (Accountability, Consistency, and Transparency) labels work in a similar way to nutrition labels and offer a comprehensive assessment of sustainability-related aspects. This allows laboratories to easily assess the environmental friendliness of their suppliers. The certification process thoroughly evaluates manufacturing processes, energy and water consumption, packaging and product disposal considerations.

Eppendorf has already received the ACT label for more than 150 products. Now three more product groups have been added

the Multipette®1) M4 multiple dispenser,
the ThermoMixer© C and
the recently launched Mastercycler® X40.

These products join a growing range of Eppendorf laboratory products that have been rated by My Green Lab for their environmental friendliness, including centrifuges, bio-based laboratory consumables, pipettes and ultra-low temperature freezers.

Eppendorf's commitment to sustainability is evident in the manufacturing of all of these recently ACT-labeled devices, which are assembled in German factories using 100% renewable energy. In addition, Eppendorf has taken a number of initiatives to minimize energy consumption and reduce waste at these manufacturing facilities. Through strict environmental, health and safety policies, including ISO 14001 certification and responsible chemical management, as well as the use of recycled and recyclable packaging materials, Eppendorf ensures high standards of safety and environmental responsibility.

About the ACT label

The criteria for the ACT label, also known as the Environmental Impact Factor (EIF) criteria, were developed with input from industry experts and external stakeholders. Scientists, sustainability officers, sourcing experts and manufacturers all provided valuable feedback on the EIF criteria, resulting in the most comprehensive product labeling program for life science products. The ACT labeling process involves third-party verification of the sustainable impact of a product, its operation and its end-of-life. The completion of this process is a significant achievement that provides a foundation and framework for continuous improvement for the manufacturer.
